    Bill Miller Jr.

    Co-Owner/Founder

    717.243.7855 x114

Bill Miller, Jr., is the co-owner and co-founder of Carlisle Events, a title he has held since 1974 when he and the late Chip Miller (no relation) hosted Post War ’74. The Carlisle Events concept and Post War event came to fruition after Chip and Bill were “asked to leave” a local show because the vehicle they were showing was not deemed to be an antique car. By giving a home to all types of vehicles, specifically those manufactured post-war, the Millers took a singular show, now known as Fall Carlisle, and turned their passion into a business that is responsible for nearly $100 million in local economic impact. In addition to being the leader of the company, Bill works closely with many non-profit organizations, including the local branch of The Salvation Army...

    Employment
Bill Miller is, was and always will be a car guy. It was his love for automobiles that sent him to work full-time at Sausman Chevrolet in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania. He began as a salesman, working his way up to sales manager, then general sales manager. Eventually Bill owned his own dealership, followed by multiple dealerships. Miller owned a Ford dealership in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and two Chevrolet dealerships -- one in Downingtown, Pennsylvania and one in Woodbine, New Jersey. He also co-owned a Volkswagen dealership in Carlisle with Chip Miller, his long-time friend and partner at Carlisle Events. He continued his dealership involvement until he sold his last dealership in 1995. This occurred during a time when the events at Carlisle were becoming too popular for Miller to keep both jobs.

    Education
Miller is a 1961 graduate of East Pennsboro High School and attended Harrisburg Area Community College as well as Messiah College.

    Personal
Bill is a central Pennsylvania native and has been married to his wife Peggy since 1967. Peggy has been a wonderful mother and has supported him through all his endeavors over the years. Hobbies
Bill enjoys spending time in Florida, fishing and antique collecting. Also important to him is his active participation in community events, non-profit leadership and fundraising.

    Dream Car
“I love the Kaiser Darrin, which was made by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation in the 1954. This fiberglass-bodied sports car was created to compete with Chevrolet's new sports car, the Corvette and for me, it’s a true classic. Along with my love of the Kaiser, I really enjoy collector cars that are original and have never been restored.”

Favorite part of working at Carlisle Events
“Since starting my career in the automotive industry and spending all these wonderful years at Carlisle Events, I tell everyone that I’ve never worked a day in my life, as I am blessed to work in my hobby. We at Carlisle Events treat everyone who walks through our gates as guests and guests are to be treated as family - welcome to the Carlisle family!”

  • Lance Miller

    Lance Miller

    Co-Owner

    717.243.7855 x115

Lance is the son of Chip Miller, co-founder of Carlisle Events, who in the early ‘70s formed Carlisle Events with his good friend Bill Miller, Jr. (no relation). Over the decades, Carlisle Events has grown from an initial event held in 1974 to what is is today, including the world's largest largest all-Corvette Show, Corvettes at Carlisle as well as 5 collector car auctions powered by Carlisle Auctions. Corvettes at Carlisle attracts over 50,000 visitors during a four-day period with over 2,700 registered Fun Field participants and at least 5,000 Corvettes overall on-site. Lance began running the Corvette show after the passing of his father Chip from a rare disease called Amyloidosis. Lance was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1972. He literally grew up at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. To quote him, “I’ve done everything from cutting grass to garbage patrol to event management. There really is nothing in this business that I haven’t done.” Lance was raised in an automotive environment from the time he was born. In Lance’s case, Corvettes were always in the fore front, as his father, Chip, was and still is recognized as one of the foremost experts and leaders in the Corvette hobby...

In January 2007, Bill Miller, Jr. announced that the next generation of the two Miller families, Lance and Bill Jr’s son Bill III, were going to carry on the tradition of operating Carlisle Events at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. The two men carried the title of Senior Manager. In 2009 Lance purchased his mother’s share of Carlisle Events to become 50% partners with Bill Miller Jr.

This was an emotional time and a large accomplishment. Other hobbies include surfing, auto racing and enjoying friends.

    Dream Car
“I’ve lived my father’s dream and I’m fortunate to say that my family owns my dream car; a 1960 Le Mans Corvette. It’s white and blue and has the #3 on it. You might have seen it around a time or two.”

Favorite part of working at Carlisle Events
“I love being surrounded by cars, however; over time I realized how this hobby truly hums because of the people behind the wheel. Carlisle Events is such a great place to work, we enjoy bringing a lot of people that share the same passion together and we do our best to make them all smile and want to come back year after year. As my father would often say… Life is good!”

Within the first 30 days in that position he increased sales in his territory by more than 30%, he established an aggressive collections agenda insuring 100% on time customer payments and had a staff of one that carried and delivered newspapers. While Ed enjoyed working with his little brother he eventually moved on to try his hand at a number of other career paths. He literally started at the bottom of the event business when he took work at a dog show for the American Kennel Club. His responsibilities included working with hand tools, while maintaining the appearance of facilities and insuring there were no obstacles on the event grounds. He eventually moved into field and obedience training of German Shorthair Pointers for a well known GSP breeder at the time. He concurrently worked and eventually moved into a career path in food service that took him from bus boy to dish washer to prep cook of a premier regional steakhouse. His career path in food service led him to key roles in food supply for the NFL’s Washington Redskins football franchise during their 1980’s Championship runs. Despite the demanding career path of his youth, he still found time for sports, such as baseball and high school academics. Ed was born in western PA and is also a strong supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rumor at Carlisle Events is that Ed was born in the basement of a Steel Mill, Baptized in the Monongahela and weaned on Iron City Beer. Ed does not deny this.

There's no business like show business and every day is different. More importantly, Ed is surrounded by awesome people at Carlisle Events and is still in wonder after 15 years, how so few get so much done and how cool it is when we pull it all together for everyone to be a part of."

    Dream Car
"I'd say I have a lot of 'dream' cars since pretty much anything is better than my Mercury Sable, but if I could have anything and still be semi humble I'd take a new 2016 Chrysler 300 SRT, if Chrysler would return the SRT version back to North America, or the new 2016 Charger Hellcat would be a nice compromise."

Favorite part of working at Carlisle Events
"The atmosphere here is so much different compared to the tight, button down corporate world. Plus to always be designing for car events and car enthusiast is far more interesting than designing for other types of industries. Also the amount of random car information you have to learn and keep in check is crazy. It's a lot of car facts/trivia and history that I would have never learned if it wasn't for working here at Carlisle Events."
